What a Internship at Etna Urban Winery looks like
First Day at Etna Urban Winery
It was my first day at Etna Urban Winery, and I was very nervous.
I had to take a bus from Catania bus station, which already felt like a small adventure. Emanuele told me there should be a bus stop near my house, but he wasn’t exactly sure where to take it either. So that morning, I decided to start from the very beginning and take the bus from Catania Centrale to figure everything out properly.
I took the bus at 11:00 a.m. from Catania station. Along the way, I realised there were many bus stops along Via Etnea, which was reassuring. After getting off, I still had to walk about 15 minutes to reach the winery. Walking along the street was a little scary; there was much more traffic than I expected, but finally, I arrived.
I had made it to Etna Urban Winery.
I vaguely remembered how the winery looked from my interview visit. Even then, despite the bad weather, it felt beautiful. The entrance leads to another metallic door that opens into the winery. And in Sicily, there are still flowers even in November. How great is that?
I was introduced to the winery staff and to what I would be doing for the degustazione (wine tasting, a new word I learned today).
Then it was lunchtime. Emanuele, the sommelier, let me try the antipasti from the Sicilian Lunch experience and pasta. At first, I thought the antipasti plate was lunch, but then the pasta arrived. It was a lot of food, but I loved all of it. It felt especially nice to taste the food the winery serves to guests, because I knew it would help me explain the experience better once I started working with visitors.
There wasn’t much to do on my first day, but I hope everything goes well. I’m very excited to be working here.
